Personal Training

Personal Training

No matter what dance discipline you pursue, it will surely have some foundation from ballet. Personal training sessions, one-on-one with one of our professional teachers, will help you fast-track your skills and skyrocket you to the next level faster.

What is Personal Training?

A personal training (PT) session is a tailor-made one-on-one class with one of our professional ballet teachers to help you achieve your specific goals in dance.

In the first session, you will discuss with your teacher what your goals are for engaging in PT sessions. From there, the teacher can create a plan to help you achieve those goals.

In a typical session, the class will include warm-up exercises, base skills, strength and flexibility exercises, technique or choreography exercises specific to your goals, feedback and corrections, and cool-down exercises.

Why Join Personal Training?

A dancer might join PT sessions for a number of reasons. The personal attention that comes with being in a one-on-one environment with the teacher may be just what that dancer needs to perfect a certain technique, gain more confidence and motivation, or overcome a plateau in their progress.

Some common goals for people joining PT are: to prepare for competition or show, personal attention to perfect a movement or technique, rapidly improve strength and flexibility, and overcome the anxiety that comes with starting on pointe shoes.

With clear communication between the dancer and the teacher, all goals are achievable.

When Can I Join Personal Training?

Dancers can start a PT course at any time.

The weeks prior to an upcoming competition, performance, or audition would be a suitable time to engage in PT.

Joining dance for the first time brings a lot of questions, PT sessions are good for gaining clarification.

Someone returning to dance after a long break can seek advice on which level they should return to by getting a personalised assessment in a PT session.

Returning to dance after an injury is a situation where PT would be beneficial. Assessing the limitations of the injured area and creating awareness of any techniques the dancer should pay attention to can ensure a safe and positive re-engagement with dance.
